Washington Square Park Christmas Tree Moved

 ''Tis the season...

After 93 years standing place under the Stanford White Arch in Washington Square Park, this year's Christmas tree will be moved to a new location on the Fountain Plaza — between the Fountain and the Arch . The move is due, of course, to the installation of the Ai Weiwei “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors” Exhibit under the Arch, an event which has caused consternation among some community members.   Nonetheless, as the well-known  cathryn@washingtonsquareblog  reports, the accustomed tree lighting ceremony at Washington Square Park will take place Wednesday, December 6th at 6 p.m. with a Santa Claus, a band and caroling and more holiday caroling and music will take place Sunday, December 24th, Christmas Eve, at 5 p.m., organized by the Washington Square Association, one of the oldest community groups in the city.  Ho Ho Ho

NEW GREEN IN TOWN

New Yorkers now have access to a lovely new lawn at "Andrew Haswell Green Park complete with seating, game tables and great views of the East River and Queensboro Bridge."  The shiny green space is part of a multi-phase project designed to upgrade the Manhattan waterfront. As local Councilman Ben Kallos says, "We are rebuilding the East River Esplanade block by block, street by street and park by park."  The rest of the story, with pictures is at  https://patch.com/new-york/upper-east-side-nyc/new-park-space-opens-upper-east-side-esplanade?utm_source=article-mostrecent&utm_medium=rss&utm_term=community%20corner&utm_campaign=recirc&utm_content=aol
